360 - Zone

Why is it I always have trouble connecting to Phil and Ste?
Would it solve the problem if we were all on the same 'zone' eg 'Underground'
or is it just a microsoft 'thing'

Does anyone know before i start looking it up whether the xbox can be used to store tv programes like a hard drive that you can buy seperately?
I.e. can I buy a 360 rather than a nice sony DVD player with harddrive and get everything i need witht he 360 to watch a recording of a telly programme, watch a dvd on a Saturday night and get to play games, all for not that much more?????????
