I am going to Germany, I bought return flights from Birmingham to Cologne for £26 travelling out on Thursday 10th returning on Tuesday 15th. Phil alo has bought tickets. Joe said he was definately not coming but his 'friend' is.
Apparently Cologne has more bars per person than any other German city.
Anybody else who fancies it is more than welcome.

It's close the fairground. This is what a previous guest has to say
"A fantastic hotel once we managed to figure out the german transport system which in hindsight is quite easy. Very friendly staff with great english. Breakfast (when we managed to get up for it!) was a perfect start to the day. Very close to both the train and the metro with the train being the easier one to figure out. Trains to cologne were €2.10 per day both directions for as many trips as you want with it being very frequent. thank you all!"
Woo Hoo
They have Cable Cars - http://www.koelner-seilbahn.de/english/index.html
Boo
But they are not operating in November :-(
Interesting
Not sure how definitive the info below is but I hope it can be trusted ( altstadt means old town ):
"The *beginning* of Karneval is on November 11th. At exactly 11:11am, be at 'Alter Markt' (Altstadt, 5min by foot from the central train station 'Köln Hauptbahnhof'). Yes, it *will* be crowded, but also real fun. Karneval is officially opened that day and there's a whole day of party. Be sure to check the many bars and pubs starting at maybe 4pm that day, since the party goes on that day. Wear some funny costume. After this day, the 'fifth season' (Karneval) in Köln has begun, but only for this very day. November 12th is 'normal' again, and the next street activities will be in February. "
I have also discovered that despite what it says in the phrase book about Altbier being like normal beer it is actually a beer traditionally brewed in Dusseldorf. Unfortunately Dusseldorf and Cologne are fierce rivals and you risk being beaten and ejected from Cologne bars for ordering Altbier and the same in Dusseldorf for ordering Koelsch.

Price Hike
The price for these tickets has now risen to £39 so you had better get in now before they get any higher.
Assuming you want to go to smelly old Germany in the first place that is. Many people have already foolishly decided to go and bought tickets - don't make the same mistake they did and you can spend the weekend relaxing with me instead.
