Saturday In Cologne

Waking up wasn't easy, even Richards early morning shouting failed to have an effect.

Eventually I did wake up to find Richard had left in search of culture and Phil was initmating he was wanting to out and about too so I had a quick shower and we set out on the underground into town.

Unfortunately we had set out on the wrong underground so a dawning realisation descended on us that we didn't recognise any of the stations or landscape we were passing through and we decided to get off in one of Colognes outer suburbs. Although it was past 3PM it still seemed to us like it was early morning, it was quite cold and grey looking and everywhere was very quiet as, presumably, everyone slept off the excesses of the night before.

We met Richard in front of the cathedral and learned that Paul & Kerri were still happily asleep in bed so we ended up in a "Chicago Steak House" where we embarked on a leisurley steak breakfast. The steak was delicious and a cup of tea helped to make me feel a lot better. The waitresses were also all very nice.

We arranged to meet Paul & Kerri outside the cathedral which we duly did and headed off to find a pub to wait in for Rob & Caroline. The first one we tried was far to busy so we left that and found a much smaller bar with only a small group of singing Germans in it. There we drank a few Koelschs and learned that Paul & Kerri too had breakfasted on steak. Rob & Caroline appeared and told us of the English shop they had found selling kippers, HP Sauce and other English things.

After a few more drinks in that pub we decided it was time to move on a began a short wander around central Cologne, eventually by way of the tram we ended up on the ring road in the same area Richard, Phil & I had sampled on our first evening.

All the pubs were a lot fuller, it being Saturday and it took a while to find a suitable establishment to everyones taste but eventually we landed in a nice cocktail bar where a while later we were all seated and merrily drinking large unlikely looking cocktails.

Shortly after the cocktail I began to feel a little drunk and weakend through lack of food but luckily pizza was ordered and this was just the job.

At some point we moved to another pub we had been in on Saturday and had a few drinks until Paul, Kerri, Caroline and a grumbling Rob left for their beds. Shortly afterwards we left too and took a very expensive taxi ride home.
