I've just been looking throught the official san fermin web site and came across the details of injuries for the bull running. Phil wanted to know about serious injuries.....
This is just one day.
Five runners were gored in the third bull-running of Sanfermines 2002. It was the longest and most dangerous of this year's fiesta. Three of the injured are of American nationality and the other two are from Pamplona. All five have suffered injuries which have been classified as grave, but without damage to vital parts of the body. They will undergo surgery throughout the morning. Jorge Rolando Villao Minda a 21 year-old from Pamplona was admitted to the "Virgen del Camino" hospital after being gored in the Estafeta stretch of the run where he received several gorings to his buttocks and is probably the most serious case.
Two other runners who were gored in their left legs have also been admitted to this hospital: Francisco Javier lvarez Ochoa de Olza, a 39 year-old man from Pamplona who was caught by a bull in the Mercaderes stretch. James Brandau a citizen of New Mexico (USA) of 69 years of age was gored in Santo Domingo street.
Two other runners were taken from the stretch at Telfonica and admitted to the Hospital of Navarra . Both are American. Justin Brando a 22 year-old, suffered a 20cm goring to the rear of his right thigh which penetrated the interior side and reached the femur, missing the vascular nerve system and reached the internal face.
Howard S. Marzan a 30 year-old from Puerto Rico, suffered a 15cm goring to the rear face of the upper left thigh which affects the muscle, but did not damage the vascular nerve system.
There were also many minor concussions apparently
