Pobré de mi

I have just read that after the fiesta has finished it is becoming more popular to extend the fiesta by turning up at eight in the morning of the 15th and instead of running with the bulls, running with the buses and cars.

THE RUNNING OF THE VILLAVESA (BUS)

Villavesa is the colloquial name given to the local municipal buses. And the first bus that comes into service on the morning of the fifteenth of July - the day after the last bullrunning has been made - finds that there is a crowd waiting at the starting line singing to the saint. But this time the crowd plan to run - not in front of the bulls -but in front of the bus which follows more or less the same route up towards the bullring. Of course, a dim view is taken by the bus-driver and the authorities in general of this rowdy behaviour. And in fact, this early morning route was cancelled by the authorities. Not that this really matters, the runners now simply wait for the first vehicle that comes along -perhaps a fruit lorry heading for the nearby market place or whatever...

On the fifteenth of July, as the long empty day progresses, it becomes all too clear that it is suddenly all over for another long year. The last of the beraggled revellers slip silently away, conscious that their raucous behaviour is now no longer tolerated. The few remaining citizenry now turn a stern gaze on the riotous behaviour that they had so happily tolerated throughout the Festival. For even many of the local people have also departed for a quiet rest at the seaside resorts.

An eerie silence hangs over the city with hardly an open bar to be found in the town.
