Drug Fest 2008

It's time once again for the Tour De France which kicks off this Saturday. This year there isn't really any clear favourite to win without knowing who's on what drugs and which ones are likely to be detected but the route this year is supposed to be especially hard entering the mountains earlier than usual and not long after the time trial.

David Millar, the reformed English drug user, is looking for a stage win this year but isn't really all that likely to do that well over all unfortunately and there is also another British sprinter entering for the first bit before he goes off to train for the Olympics.

Eurosport still wont bring back David Duffield for their commentary so we're stuck with the supremely boring Sean Kelly on Eurosport or the more-interesting-but-not-as-interesting-as-duffers Phil Ligget on ITV4. Whatever, it's bound to be exciting and see lots of exciting drug busts. The game will be to spot who's performance is drug enhanced and who's isn't.

Whipping The Dirty Frenchies

Le Tour is becoming more exciting than I thought it would be, Mark Cavendish got his second stage win yesterday in a very impressive sprint over the last 3 or 400 metres. At one stage it looked like all hope was lost as his lead out train ( Team Columbia ) lost out in a turn to Team Quick Step and fell behind but Mark, who says he is the fastest man in the word over 200M, went out on his own from 20M or so behind with 200M to go and just absolutely blew all the other sprinters away to take the win. It was really very impressive. He's supposed to be leaving the tour early to join the Olympic cycling team but I reckon he will now stay on, complete the tour and try to win in Paris at the finish.

So far only one person has been booted out for drug taking although there seems to be a fairly deep suspicion the guy who won the time trial a few days ago is not entirely legit based on his recently being arrested for drunk driving and the police finding a load of amphetamines in his car. Apparently because it wasn't an official drugs check this doesn't count against him.

Stuck?

I won't be stuck with either of them as I shan't be watching the cheat-a-thon.
