Woke up around 9.30 feeling very good considering how much I had drunk the night before, I decided that I would go and eat breakfast and then climb up the to see the napoleonic castle at the top of the hill overlooking the bay.
As I was about to leave Paul awoke and said that he wanted to come to, we ate, went to the the laundry and then went off to sort out Pauls money transfer from Barclaycard.
The first bank we entered the cashier drew us the worse map in living history on how to get to barclays bank, we ask in a mobile phone shop and we are pointed in the right direction, then ask in another bank and we finally arrive outside Barclays, with a little trouble with the odd doors, Paul asks at the counter if any money has been sent through, No is the answer. He gets several numbers for barclaycard.
Outside at the telephone box he rings and gets the address of a western union office, we walk to the tourist information office only to be told that the address is not in Iruna. Back on the phone Paul is told that any western union will do, back to the information centre to get an address.
We walk to the western union place and Paul is given very grave looks, but then the woman realises that she cant read a series of numbers and everything is cool. Paul has three hundered euros and they are burning a whole in his pocket :).
We sit down for an orange juice when sleeping trio arrive heading for the beach, it is now about 1.30 and they have just awoke. Paul and I arrange to meet them on the beach later because it was much too hot and we had both been walking around for about two hours in the heat.
Back to the laundry, then up the hill to see the castle, a very very steep hill quite hard work walking up it but there is plenty of shade we get to the top and it has the most amazing views unfortunately the museum is closed for lunch but it matters not, the scenery more than makes up for it. We walk down to the British Cemetary it has one grave that reads 'To the memory of those that god only knows'. We walk further down the hill to the armoury a sign on the wall says that it was hit by lightning and half of the town destroyed as the munitions exploded, the following day the British came and razed the city to the ground.
Walk back to the flat for a little sit down, then to the supermarket to buy a drink. At the checkout Paul is examining the breastage of a girl standing next to him, instead of hitting him she starts talking to him, but no date nor number.
Paul and I hit the beach to find the others and after walking some considerable distance, we finally find them. The tell us that they were cool on the beach even though they look like surnburned lobsters. We swim in the sea, quite cool but really refreshing once in.
After a while we head back to the flat to wash before eating, again we look for the restaurant Kos Kol, this time we find it, it is like a sauna, I was not going to eat there. After much arguing and walking around, Rob and Paul decide on Kos Kol, Joe, Myself and Phil elsewhere.
I am not saying there gay but....
After eating we meet up, Paul wants to walk along the beach, I am not keen. Everyone storms off along the promenade, I dawdle along taking in the sights. At the end there are two bars, one is full of beautiful women the other full of old men, the one has cool latino house music playing in the background perfect for the coast, the other has is quiet. The stapping young men decide to sit in old mens bar, I think it reminds them of the bell. I was not having that, no fucking chance, I sat in the other bar on my own.
Eventually Phil came over and realised the error of his ways and went off to tell the others, he came back and said to me that they were going home for an early night. Fine, I was not, neither was Phil. Joe lost his keys, we had to walk back to the flat with them let them in and then go off to find some more places to drink.
Several hours and many bars later including one with 'The Worlds Lovliest Barmaid' TM. It was kicking out time and bed for us. Returning to the room we discovered that Australians had been sat outside the window singing for most of the night and that our got to bed early friends had had no sleep. Very Funny.
San Sebastian/Donostia is a fantastic place and I heartily recommend it to anyone, it has a shallow beach, fine scenery, excellent bars, good food and the prettiest women I have ever seen.
