It's Friday And I don't Feel Much Like Working

I know I am a little obsessed by the position things in Google when I feel the need the need to periodically check what is brought up by typing my name in.

Anyway today I have found my efforts to be partially rewarded - typing Joe Bunting in the UK & Ireland Google brings back information about me in the number 1 position. There is still some work to do globally however where I only come in at 7th place. Perhaps if I eliminate some of those other - false - Joe Buntings I can both enhance my own newsworthiness and elimnate some of the opposition in one go !

Of course mentioning my name ( Joe Bunting ) here a few time can't do any harm either.

Last night I finished reading William Gibsons new book - "Pattern Recognition". Although I did enjoy reading it and couldn't put it down I think there was some element I enjoyed in his previous books which was missing here. Unfortunatley I couldn't say exactly what that element is.

I don't think it helps that he has set this book pretty much in the present day rather than at some point in the future and as a consquence his descriptions and the backdrop's in this book aren't as interesting or as absorbing as they have been in previous books.

Also there is some kind of weird Douglas Coupland effect going on. Around 3/4 of the way through I began to wander if Mr Gibson was in fact to trying to write a Douglas Coupland novel and then at the end of the book there are some dedications in which Mr Gibson thanks Mr Coupland for helping him out "in a Coffee Bar above Shinjuku". This books even features Mr Couplands de facto dead character.

I don't think Mr Gibsons work is improved at all by this process and by the end of the book you get the impression he just got a bit bored of writing it.

Having said that it is still a good book and I will read it again at some point.

Going Up

I am not at number 5 globally and remain number 1 in the UK and Ireland, way to go me !!!

Crumbs

I've been beaten into second place in the UK by a Crazy Golf loving imposter and only just remain on the first page world wide. This is intolerable, Joe Bunting will rise again !
