Alternative flight ideas
Hi all,
Just stumbled across this site whilst looking for weather forecasts for FiB (!). I have 2 ideas for those that have yet to book flights...
Easiest for Birmingham HAS to be direct to Valencia from Coventry via www.thomsonfly.com. Get together and hire a car for £80 to £100 for a week. The flight should cost around £140. Having done FiB via Barcelona in previous years, this is much the better option. You'll have just one hour of clear motorway to get you back to the airport for a flight home at 2pm.
If you're on a real budget, fly to Reus (next to Tarragona and Salou) which is about 1h15m south of Barcelona for just £29 e/w plus taxes on Ryanair from Stansted. Two flights a day, one early and one late.
Hope this helps?
Martin
?
Can I just check, did that bloke just say his real name is 'bedhead'?
Drinkin', Dancin' And Campin'
It looks like the best campsite to use is Mercado ( Market ? ), it's the furthest from the site but closest to the beach. Apparently it's the only campsite which has grass and trees and is in the words of some people "the coolest", hopefully in more ways than 1 !
This is a good forum where everyone is chatting about it

Anyway has anyone found a really good flight deal to fib? I've never been and am looking for some seasoned supporters for some seasoned support..x My friend has been to Glasto many x's over the years but it will be our 1st trip to a beach fest ? ish...how far is it from the beach? x ( bedhead is my real name ...)

I think we got our flights for just over 110 pounds but I think the prices have gone up since then ( to Barcelona ) though. You have to get a train from there and apparently you have to book that in advance or spend 8 hours + queuing for tickets at the Barcelona station.
Benicassim it's self is right on the coast and I think the actual festival is something like 2-3 Km from the beach.
This is our first time too so all that info is just what I have got off the web.

happy days are here again was looking at the site and can't believe i've missed out on it in previous years - came from ireland to glasto last year and was VERY upset about not getting time off work or tickets this year, but this seems like it might make up for it ... a little concerned bout sleeping in tents in such heat but sure all the gigs are on until 6 am so it's just a case of sleeping on the beach methinks... roll on august

Get It On
OK, Rich and I now have tickets to this event. Compared to Glastonbury it was a breeze, I just went to the site - ordered them and they confirmed it ! Lovely.
Every day looks like there are great bands to watch, these are just the main ones headlining and the like.
Friday: Choose between Kraftwerk or Air with also the chance to watch The Charlatans earlier in the day
Saturday: Too much choice, Lou Reed, Primal Scream & Belle & Sebastian on the main stage compete with Teenage Fanclub and Soulwax
Sunday: Will it be Brian Wilson and the Chemical Brothers or Lambchop and Wire ?
I think the line up is 1st class.

you are right - it does look like a great line up. Pity I am elsewhere...
Phil's Worries
Phil and Joe have both expressed concerns about the heat and sleeping in tents well THESE PICTURES should allay all fears.

I haven't expressed any such doubts, you are confusing me with Paul !
Having looked at those pictures though it looks like a really nice shady campsite and I would be happy to pitch my tent there.
When are we getting tickets ? This weekend ?

Let us find out who wants to come first... I am looking at ways to get cheap airfares.

OK, we know that you and I want to go and that Phil does too but I'm not too sure there was anyone else who indicated that they might definatley consider it. If there is we can give them a week to make their minds up and then get it sorted out quick smart.
Obviously the more the merrier, that campsite looks positively idyllic, there are a lot of cool bands playing, Spain is a nice country to look around - things to see, plenty of relaxed continental style nightlife and it will be reasonably cheap so what are you waiting for ? Come along - it will be great !

We will need hammocks, who knows where there is a good hammock shop ?

Lets Go - Who's Coming ?
The 4 day ticket is only a little a more expensive than the 3 day one so we may as well go for that. Including booking fee it is, as Richard says, around £115.
The 4 day ticket allows you entry to the all the music which starts on August 5th ( THURSDAY ) and finished on August 8th ( SUNDAY ). The ticket also allows 9 days free camping on the official campsite.
It seems to me the best plan would be leave on July 31 ( SATURDAY ) and spend some time looking around that bit of Spain or just generally travelling around and get to the festival on the WEDNESDAY ready to enjoy the music. We could then return on MONDAY August 9th. Of course anyone who hasn't the time or the inclination for the extended tour could just hook up at the festival it's self.
Having had a brief look the flights to the nearest airport ( Valencia ) appear to be around £150 - £180 whilst the flights to Barcelona or Madrid are a lot cheaper ranging from £70 - £120 so I reckon we'd be better to fly to one of those places and sort out some transport from there.
Tickets are on sale on the NME website ( type Benicassim ) into the gig guide thing. I say we should go, and I say we should arrange it soon !

I am looking at the budget ai
I am looking at the budget airlines now, I don't think they will work out much cheaper though. The following are some useful general websites I use to book flights:
Easy Jet
Flights are cheaper during the week and before 5PM on Fridays so if we were willing to leave earlier on Friday it would be cheaper. Also there cheapest flights are from Stanstead ( whereas the prices mentioned above are from Birmingham ) and I think it costs around £30 to get to Stanstead.
Taking all that into account the first flight on Friday outbound ( at around 6AM ) is only £20 rising to £40 on Friday evening and a bit more on Saturday. Returning all prices are around £40 - £50 and it's a similar price to Madrid or Barcelona, Bilbao is a bit more expensive.
So best case scenario for Easy Jet is something like £105 ( including taxes ) and the worst £135 ( also including taxes ).
Airline Network
The Airline Network ( usually pretty good for the best scheduled flight deals ) gives us a Luthansa flight from Birmingham to Madrid for £107 including taxes. The lowest fare is £90 but there are no seats left on that flight, search yourselves for alternatives to other destinations and on different days to see how the price varies.
My Travel Lite
Departing from Birmingham to Barcelona on the Friday morning we can get a price of just over £90. Even on Saturday it we can get a flight for just £98. This looks like a potential winner !
I will add details for more operators as and when I research them, feel free to edit this post yourself if you have found any alternative fares.

Other Airports
Trains in Spain www.renfe.es
It would cost between 20 - 30
It would cost between 20 - 30 Euros ( £13 - £19 ) to travel to Benicassim from Barcelona and slightly more from Bilbao and Madrid ( I think you need to change at Barcelona coming from Madrid anyway - so far as work out from their weirdo website )

Pita and Tina Frank!!
How could we resist?
Pita and Tina Frank
There will be something really frightening coming out of this collaboration. Pita will let her machine´s tones loose, achieving the hypnotic effect which he so well knows how to produce, and Tina Frank, the Mego Designer, will generate visual sensations around the sound, obtaining an integral experience of real chill-out.
line up
this does sound like a good line up.

And note that Morrissey has confirmed too!
Morosissy
Does anyone like Morrisey? I think his sadness is a little indulgent at his age. He should grow up and accept the beauty that it lif e- particularly a charmed life that he know leads. I think we should bombard his email with pictures of dying children to make him realise the true comfort of his situation; at the least it would push him over the edge and actually kill himself, rather than making money out of fake misery and sixth form level poetry.
