Researched Activities

Boat Trip

For this months activity I thought we could hire a canal party boat and go cruising for an evening around Birmingham. Obviously to make this worth while would depend on the number of people who want to go.

I am looking at maybe booking the following package from Sherborne Wharf Private Charters (www.sherbornewharf.co.uk)

How To Talk Like A Pirate

Lately there has been a great deal of interest in Pirates and Piractical Pursuits within Club circles.

One never knows when one may have to adopt the native parlance of our bucanneering brethren ( maybe sooner than we think ) and this website will train us in all in the correct seafaring and carousing language.

Dressing Like A Pirate

Having learned to talk like a pirate dedicated dogs of the sea may also wish, on occasion, to dress like a pirate. There are numerous resources on the web explaining how this can be achieved but many of them are nothing but poorly disguised attempts to sell you clothing.

Morris Dancing

Some of our members have expressed an interest in Morris Dancing already and indeed after the initial mirth and amusement subsides I think some of our members could indeed be considered as ideal material for a successful Morris dancer; large, good firm bellies, stringy beards, a liking for 'real' ales and a total lack of rythmn.

I have researched a local club, The Jockey Men which we could visit to explore this fascinating and ancient folk ritual further.

A Night Drinking In The Pub

Well you may say we do this most weekends with little to show for it anyway ( and you may well be right ) but with the added ingredient of professional and scientifically tested drinking games all could be transformed.

We would become the centre of attention, crowds would flock to sip the dregs from our table, grown men would shiver with excitement as they approached daring to challenge our undoubted mastery of all drinking games known to man. Maybe.

Murder Mystery Night

Finding any clues to the existance or location of Murder Mystery nights happening around Birmingham ( and I'm sure there must be lots ) is a bit of a mystery.

The only confirmed lead I have is an event at Solihull Library on the 27th March, full details can be found here.

Other than that there is only this web site which may one day have some events happening near us.

GIving blood

One for Joe, this...

http://www.blood.co.uk/

And it's not as if it's a difficult thing to do. When you show up, we'll ask a few questions about your health and lifestyle (just to make sure you haven't been exposed to anything infectious). We'll take a drop of blood from your finger to make sure you're not anaemic. And then we'll take your blood donation which is just under a pint. This should take about 10 minutes.

White Water Rafting

A nice gentle snooze down the river or a wild, crazy and wet charge through dangerous rocks and foaming rapids ? If you choose the latter than White Water Rafting is for you.

I have done this and it is cool, even though it was equally good fun just floating down the river. It would seem that the closest places to here to go rafting are in Wales or at Holme Pierpoint in Nottingham.

I have found one place which offers 2 hours rafting for £29, it is in Llangollen in Wales which is probably around a 2 hour car journey away. They also offer a number of other activities and accomodation at the amazingly cheap price of £10 a night.
