Benicassim - Final Morning

Rich woke me at some point in the morning to hand over various items for which I was ( sleepily ) very grateful and said his farewells before heading off to begin his journey back to Kidderminister.

A while later I summoned up the energy to poke my head out of the tent and was greeted by a site which really announced the end of the festival festivities - where Rich and Tim & Gemmas tents had been there was now a big gap opening up a view of desolation of half dismantled tents, tired people and the detrius of 8 days camping. Coupled with a bit of a hangover and my general morning grumpiness it struck me as all being quite depressing.

Benicassim - 7th Day

No one was feeling especialy active so most of the morning was spent dealing with the painful waking process lounging around under the canopy snacking.

Eventually we had mustered enough energy to make our way to the Water Park, stopping off for lunch in a cafe. Needless to say the ordering and food delivery process had a few hiccups - "Excuse me, I ordered tea. Whatever this is it's not tea !" but by now we were experts at resolving such problems. Our attention was caught for a moment by a sign for a pub which was rather sugestively called something like "Bumlove" ( or something ).

We were half way to the park when Tim & Gemma realised they'd left something in the cafe so they went back to retrieve it whilst we pressed on to the park.

Benicassim - 6th Day

Today was the big day for me, I had to get to the festival whilst it was still light to see the Wedding Present. I had bought there new album ( and it's great ) and I needed to see them in action.

In order to ensure everything went to plan I decided not to join the others on the beach and spent the morning lounging around the campsite with Rich & Ed. Eventually Ed went off to see the others on the beach and Rich & I headed wearily off into town for something to eat. The main reason I moved from my lounging position was a lack of cigarettes.

We had a lovely meal in one of the cafes down the main street, a nice salad followed by a large plate of pasta. It turned out I was starving and so I polished off the lot in next to no time. Meal over it was back to the campsite for more lounging. Ed hadn't met anyone on the beach and had turned up back at the campsite. The others turned up in dribs and drabs over the course of the late afternoon.

Benicassim - 5th Day

Too hot in the tent again by mid morning so I awake to once again find everyone else dozing outside under the canpoy. I think my tent was one of the most shaded since the sun seemed to hot Dans and Richs tent first, sweep up past Richards & Eds and Tim and Gemmas tent and leave Leighs tent and my own tent until last.

We spent the day on the beach, not by the beach bar this time but further down in a slightly quieter part. Dan tryed to get people to stand on his shoulders in the sea but no one could manage it.

I wasn't feeling especially energetic when we got back from the beach so just spent time relaxing whilst everyone else dashed off to watch the Kaiser Chiefs. I was also starving not having eaten much else all day apart from bread and cheese so when I did arrive in the festival I spent the first hour eating. To start with I had a pizza whilst watching the Ravenettes on the big screen but that wasn't very nice or filling so I ended stuck in a big queue for falafels by the main arena when Keane came on. Luckily the queue went down quite quickly so I didn't have to listen to much of Keane before I could escape to the grass to eat the falafel.

Day Five - Acclimatisation

It was quite hot in the tent in the morning but not anywhere near as hot as I had thought it might be which was a relief. It was in fact generally very hot everywhere, especially anywhere not in the shade.

The showers at Bonet were not quite up to the standard of the Gothic Point Hostel, they only had a cold setting. Once you got used to it though it was very refreshing and pleasant indeed, it was so hot I generally ended up having at least 2 showers a day.

We went to the beach and tried out Richards beach shelter which worked perfectly and then we wandered around Benicassim and tried out some of the cafes. The town was packed with festival goers but there was usually plenty of space in the cafes to sit in the shade.
