This is the view from Ruthven barracks. The road to the right of the picture is the one we were travelling down.
This huge crane once used to lifts ships and parts of ships from the shipyards into the river. Now the shipyards are gone but the crane remains as a reminder of the industry which used to thrive here.
You can see Phil on his bike in the bottom centre right of the shot. This gives some idea of the scale of this crane.
This is a view of the rear of Dumbarton Castle, and this is as close as we ever got to it despite cycling around Dumbarton its self ( don't go there, it's horrible ) for a good half an hour. Unusually in this instance my usually flawless navigation broke down which I am going to blame on following the directions of a local rather than working it out for myself from the map. In any case there are supposedly thousands of stairs up to the actual castle its self so maybe missing it out was not such a bad thing !
